The Developer Mode in Porsche Piwis 3 is not available when you update the shell, coz you lose the menu diagnostics configuration to switch between regular and developer mode, Problem solved if you copy the old file com.porsche.piwis.Shell.exe.config
Here is how to update the shell config. and get the diagnostic configuration boxes back, on the system tab.
After a successful update from 37.250.20 you will loose the two above mentioned boxes from the System tab. If you did not loose them, then the [PIDT] diagnostic software did not update completely. So it’s a good thing to loose it !
Go to C:\PiwisApps\Shel\ and carefuly edit with notepad this file –> com.porsche.piwis.Shell.exe.config
after the update the PIDT section shows up in green, after U edit it it will be blue.
First picture shows, red underlined, 2 places, beginning and the end of the green section, what to remove. On top [Line 568 on mine] U delete these four symbols !–< on the bottom [line 603 on mine] U delete these 3 symbols –> Then U save the config file. Restart the PC and your Diagnostic config box for 991,981,970 and Diagnostic config for other models RE-APPEAR.
rm996 has the solution how get the developer functionality back up and running, !!! PM him.

Developer mode is a special Piwis program that allow a lot of advanced coding normally reserved only to Factory.
With this function you will have a tool that can do more than software of official Porsche Dealer. For example, you can reprogram all ECUs completely offline.
How to use Piwis Developer Mode:
Install winrar and winhex on your computer.
-1-locate the file c:\program files\porsche\PIDT_P_MIG_DLSS3\pidt\plugins\de.dsa.pidt.datatype.jar and copy it on your desktop in order to modify it.
Open it with winrar,in the wirar windows locate the file
\de\dsa\pidt\datatypes\utils\Helper$1.class and drag it on your destop , delete it from the archive after the copy, keep the winrar window open.
Open Helper$1.class on your desktop with winhex and goto offset E81, replace 9A by A7 and save.
Drag back the save file on the winrar windows still open and click OK.Close winrar
Copy the new file de.dsa.pidt.datatype.jar you just made in
c:\program files\porsche\PIDT_P_MIG_DLSS3\pidt\plugins, overwrite it.
copy the file aftersales.sig on your desktop and rename it development.sig.Copy this file back in the folder
Do exactly the same method given above with the folder c:\program files\porsche\PIDT_P_MIG_DLSS3 with its own files.
Make sure PIWIS is closed. If it is open, right-click the Taskbar, and run Task Manager. Select co.porsche.piwis.shell and End Task.
Click Start (WinKey) and type services.msc in the search box. Run services.msc. If the service is running, stop it.
If the Keygen is on the laptop, run it, and leave it open.
Run a Command Prompt. At the Command Prompt, type: WMIC BIOS GET SERIALNUMBER
Enter the Serial Number into the Keygen. Enter the Country into the Keygen. Change the Expiry Date to 01/01/2030. The Dealer number is not important, but you can enter one if you know it (7 digit number). Leave the Challenge Key blank for now.
Click Start (WinKey) and type services.msc in the search box. Run services.msc Change the AdminService startup to Automatic, and click Apply. Click Start to start the service.
Run Piwis3. Go to the Imprint section. Enter 4 random digits into the Licence key boxes. Tick the Accept box, and click License Update – it will say Not Valid – click OK. Click Licence update twice more and OK. The Request Key should have disappeared, and the Create Key button should be active – click it. Place the mouse pointer at the bottom of the screen, and open the Keygen. Enter the Request Key into the Challenge Key box, and click Generate. Enter the licence key shown into the boxes on Piwis. Tick the Accept box and click Licence update. If successful, you should get a message to reboot. Click OK, and the computer will shut down.
After starting the computer, open services.msc again. Stop AdminService, set startup to Disabled. You can now run Piwis.
You can also get the serial number by printing out the imprint request. The snag with that is if you are imprinting a VM, it does not show the complete number.

The circuit diagram in version 37.900 works perfectly even without online access. And whether the updates work now or not is only secondary, the main thing we have to play.

It may be an interesting subject, I’m sure there is some information about this out here. The Piwis 2 interface is a lot more robust piece of equipment, compared to the cheesy and flimsy looking and feeling interface produced by Actia for Piwis 3. Originally designed for the VW ODIS system, the VAS 6154 VCI is quite the service needy piece. [Breaks easily] not a hard comparison to make. Porsche went cheap on this VCI for Piwis 3. [my humble opinion, way below Porsche standard!]
There is a service from Poland and Ukraine [If I remember correctly] that can make the Samtec based Piwis 2 VCI, to work with Piwis 3, unfortunately their charges are just as much and frankly cost prohibitive as the New Piwis 3 VCI. 2-3-4 thousand dollars for these VCIs is simply not reasonable for small operators. They will come down in price just like the Chinese VCIs did for all manufacturers as the markets get saturated and folks are not buying them as eagerly as in the beginning of the Piwis 3 phad. They will get as much money as the market bares. [as much as people are willing to pay]
